Periodontics is the treatment of diseases associated with the gums and other oral conditions affecting the soft tissues and bone of the mouth.

Periodontal (gum) diseases destroy fibres and bone and can result in tooth loss. Periodontics also includes the replacement of teeth with implants, cosmetic gum treatment and the replacement of lost bone (which is known as a bone graft) around teeth, as well as areas where teeth have been lost. A Periodontist is a highly experienced dentist who is trained in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of periodontal diseases, and also in the placement of dental implants.

Periodontal maintenance.

Scaling and root planing.

Bone grafting.

Gum grafting.

Crown lengthening.

Guided bone and tissue regeneration.

How is gum disease treated?

Periodontal treatment focuses on reducing the inflammation and infection that occur beneath the gum line.

The goal is to keep the infection under control and prevent further bone deterioration. There are several treatment options available, and the type recommended for you will depend on the extent of the gum disease. The most common treatment method is “scaling and root planing,” which removes bacteria from the root surface beneath the gum line.

I’ve been going to harcourt dental for many years and always had a great experience. Dr. Lorna is such a great dentist, very attentive and reassuring and provides advice on how to maintain oral health. I’ve had other procedures with their oral surgeon and endodontist such as extractions and root canals and all have been very good. Very happy with them.

I was in with Martin’s O’keeffe (hygienist ) last week and as visits to a dentist go it was very enjoyable . Martina is very good at her job and is very professional and always makes me feel at ease and we even manage to have a bit of banter. Lorna from Harcourt Dental Clinic is amazing. Her approach to managing my teeth is brilliant, I am 58, with a mount full of large filings and Lorna's work has made such improvements. She is so professional and communicates really well, setting out a plan. I am so relaxed when I go to the dentist that I fell asleep when I was getting a large back filling!Reception lady is very nice and helpful and dental nurse was so friendly when I was in with Lorna on 29/9.
